Who builds the drive train for these? They resemble yamaha alot i think.???From what the UK dealers say the CVT is Honda designed, not sure about the rest of the quad. My friend is a ex RAF engineer (so slightly mechanically minded) and he bought a little Falcon 90cc for his son which he's very pleased with. He was of the impression the engines are a Honda design, and built under licence, but I'm unsure about this.I know it could be handy knowing if any of the parts are interchangeable with big brand names, as if theres something thats known to be a weak spot you could always replace with a main brand part.
That said you never know these days they could all be made in same factory! Ok thank you, I've looked into spare parts back up and they have all the parts to build a machine up from scratch, which I was impressed with. As there aren't so many of these quads around in the UK it's difficult to get an idea of second hand values.Must admit I've always taken the view it's cheap for a reason, but that said I can't really justify spending £8500.00 on an equiverlent big brand one, when I can get a Jaguar 500 for £2995.00 with 1 years parts and labour warranty. It would be a really tough decision to stray me away from the big brands for any of the knock-offs that are less expensive. 99% of the time you get what you pay for in my opinion. I just had a friend buy a rhino knock-off and he paid about 2/3's of a new yamaha rhino. He only has 125kms on it (3 outings) and is still unusable. Broken rims, bad electrical components, water pump. The list goes on. He is one of those guys that are very gentle on his equipment too.
Now the 'astro' dealer has picked up and moved out, leaving him with a nice boat anchor. You know an established name brand dealer won't leave you stranded like that, or wouldn't dare.not saying all knock-offs are like this, but be wary.
I picked up a 1997 Yamaha Big Bear 350 2X4 a week or so back in non running condition, apparently they said it needed a new carburetor or a battery, I cleaned the carburetor thoroughly and got it running on idle and without choke now and it shifts into all the gears even into reverse. Aside from making me bounce a little when trying to start out with a bit of throttle the shock suffice to say needs work. Anyways I made a video of it running and would like your opinions on it, as to how it sounds while running. It seems like it has a little whine I'm not sure why that is maybe someone can tell me what it is.
Anyways here is the video. I have a 1999 Sportsman 500, it was running fine, than started to lose power in the winter, I adjusted the idle screw and away I went, than a few weeks ago it died, I have found that i am flooding the engine, compression was at 70PSI and due to the compression release mech. I assume i am good as it compared to the same PSI on a 2000 sportsman 500 i have. I cannot start the atv unless i go full throttle and it starts an runs for about 30 sec than dies, again it is flooded.
I ordered a new carb off ebay as i could get one for around $40. Put that in same issue, i have checked the timing, (good), valves out of adjustment i adjusted to.006 still same issue, i have found the exhaust lobe and rocker arm to have some wear, i have ordered new ones, but am looking for any other input in this area as well.
Would the exhaust cam and rocker arm cause the engine to flood? I have used a bore scope and the piston liner has good cross hatching still? Any input would be great.
