The USART of the AVR can be operated in three modes, namely-Asynchronous Normal Mode; Asynchronous Double Speed Mode; Synchronous Mode; Asynchronous Normal Mode. In this mode of communication, the data is transmitted/received asynchronously, i.e. We do not need (and use) the clock pulses, as well as the XCK pin. AVR ATmega USART has TTL voltage level which are 0 v for logic 0 and 5 v for logic 1. In computers and most of the old devices RS232 protocol is used for serial communication, where normally 9 pin ‘D’ shape connector is used. RS232 serial communication has different voltage levels than ATmega serial communication i.e. +3 v to +25 v for.

JHD 162A Pin ConfigurationNow, for the LCD to work in 8 bit mode, it requires the 8 data pins (DB0DB7) and 3 control pins (RS, R/W, EN) whereas in 4 bit mode, it requires 4 data pins (DB4DB7, only the upper nibble) and 3 control pins (RS, R/W, EN). Though the 8 bit mode is faster and more accurate, it consumes more pins of the MCU. However, the 4 bit mode is also fast and accurate enough to satisfy most of our need, plus it requires only 7 pins for interfacing. Hence, we will be working in the 4 bit mode.
In the 4 bit mode, data pins DB0DB3 are left open. Interfacing LCDFirst of all, you need to make basic connections of the LCD. You can refer to the following circuit diagram for this. The way you explain things is very easy to follow and understand. I am wondering if you have anything on using graphic displays. I would like to learn how to display a variable (temperature) to a graphic display, as well as some other information at the same time and in various locations and sizes on the display.
I notice that Adafruit offers some source code for graphic displays, but I don’t really know how to manipulate it to output specificly what I want to the display. Thanks bro!!! Im also having problem displaying data on the LCD!!! The AVR is working properly!!! I have checked the data pins assigned to the LCD from atmega16, by using LEDS. Data is being sent from the avr but the lcd is not picking up the data!!!

Thanks for your nice work.I try to program an old AT90s2313 with AVR Studio 5 on a 9.216 Mhz crystal.After downloading the program with USBasp the display lids with its first line full as well and nothing more.In the debuger/simulator i get stuck on delayFourCycles function of lcd.c and my c knowledge doesn’t help (i dont even understand the routine) at all so i’m asking for your help.The code its prety much yours and i optimised it for size. I have both FCPU and XTAL set at 9216000. Could you give a hint?I have also set control and data bits on different ports but i dont think this could be the problem.Thanks in advance!. Maynak,Here in LCD interfacing tutorial –it is J29 connector which is connected with atmega32(I assune) but what are the pins corrosponding to atmega32,when I am trying to compile your ADC code (with lcd.h) giving many errors, then I kept the lcd.c (from the library you mentioned) in the same directory, then error free compilation done in AVR STDIO 6 enviornment.In this context what will be the complete scheme, it is clear that how two analog sensor to be conneted with Atmega32, but what are the pin connnection og Atmega32 with LCD.where is that schematic.
